In 2010, Steven discovered the magic of film. He was working at a Drama Company in Mpumalanga at the time, starting on a new project for their latest performance in the civic theater. They were only in the discussion phase at the time. He had the urge to go home for the weekend, and subsequently got in his car and drove to Pretoria. His grandmother, or "Ouma" as he referred to her, was visiting and found an article in the newspaper that was searching for South Africa’s leading man. It was a reality show like Idols but for actors, called “Class Act”.
Naturally, his Ouma pushed him to go for it, so he did. Waiting in line behind thousands of hopefuls, his turn finally came. Considering that he had only ever been exposed to stage acting and he hadn’t made the connection between Stage and Screen yet, he was slightly in the deep end. He eventually ended up in front of the judges and performed a Rowan Atkinson piece called “Welcome to Hell”. They sent him back out and instructed him to come back with something else more film orientated, so he did.
Next thing he knew, he got a phone call saying he made it to the Top 10 in South Africa: A true feet. Bar the fact that it’s all about entertainment, he obviously had something they thought the public should see.
