Director: Alton Joubert
Genre : Action , Sci-Fi
Rift is a compact Sci-Fi that is pact full of social commentary and leaves you wanting more. The storyline and concept of time travel might be too much for the time constraints of a short film but Rift pulls it off with conviction. The film was very successful in providing enough information to populate the dystopian future South Africa.
David, played by Steven Ward, the lead protagonist is out to face the man that is responsible for South Africa’s down fall in the film. The story is heartfelt and is not just an aimless action movie. There is a strong narrative direction and a great sense of causality.
Steven’s performance is consistent and convincing. The film is of great quality and the CGI elements are blended seamlessly into the film. The set of the film at some moments look staged especially against the CGI elements. This film is a great espresso shot of action and will satisfy most sci-fi fans. Definitely worth a watch
